A home energy audit (also known as a home energy assessment) is the first step to assess how much energy your home consumes. It also evaluates what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient. A home energy audit will show you problems that can save you significant amounts of money when corrected.
Why Choose Checkmark for your Home Energy Audit?
Checkmark Home Inspection has done over 1000 Home Energy Audits and holds the following certifications:
- Licensed by the Canadian Federal Government
- Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)
- Certified Energy Advisor (CEA)
Ontario Government Mandatory Home Energy Audits
Since 2009, the Ontario Government has been working on making it mandatory for every Ontario home to have a home energy audit before selling the property. Pushback from some stakeholders has prevented this program from moving forward, which is unfortunate for the environment and homeowner’s wallets.
The Mandatory Home Energy Audit would give you the opportunity to compare homes on their energy usage and cost through a labeling system. If a home tested low, the homeowners would be given the opportunity to make changes to their home and have it re-evaluated. Mandatory home energy labels would increase residential energy awareness and provide home buyers with the necessary information to factor environmental and operating energy costs into an assessment of the home’s value.
It is likely that the credential of “Certified Energy Advisor (CEA)” would be used when this program is started. Checkmark Inspectors CEA-certified and are ready for the shift at any time!
Past Programs – ecoENERGY Retrofit
The former ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program was sponsored by both the Canadian Federal Government and Provincial Government. The program provided grants to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient and reduce the increasing burden of high energy costs. Among other eligibility criteria, participants needed to obtain a pre-retrofit evaluation by a certified energy advisor using the EnerGuide Rating System before starting work and a post-retrofit evaluation within program deadlines.
Checkmark Home Inspectors have a recently re-activated Certified Energy Advisor (CEA) certification and are ready if and when this program, or a similar program, is re-initiated.
